Aum Kathyayanaya Vidmahe
Kanya Kumari cha Dheemahe
Thanno Durgaya Prachodayath


Meaning:
Om, Let me meditate on the goddess who is daughter of Kathyayana,
Oh, maiden Goddess, give me greater intellect,
And let Goddess Durga enlighten my mind.

Goddess Durga:
Goddess Durga is the mother of the universe and thought to be the ability behind the job of creation, preservation, and destruction of the world. Since time immemorial she has been worshipped because the supreme power of the Supreme Being and has been mentioned in several scriptures - Yajur Veda, Vajasaneyi Samhita and Taittareya Brahman.

Meaning of "Durga":
The word "Durga" in Sanskrit means a fort, or even a place which will be difficult to overrun.
Another meaning of "Durga" is "Durgatinashini," which literally translates into "usually the one who eliminates sufferings." Thus, Hindus genuinely believe that goddess Durga protects her devotees from the evils of the planet and at once removes their miseries.


Forms of Durga:
There are numerous incarnations of Durga: Kali, Ambika, Lalita, Bhagvati, Bhavani, Gauri, Kandalini, Java, Rajeswari, et al. Durga incarnated because the united power of all divine beings, who offered her the required physical attributes and weapons to kill the demon "Mahishasur ".Her nine appellations are Skondamata, Kusumanda, Shailaputri, Kaalratri, Brahmacharini, Maha Gauri, Katyayani, Chandraghanta and Siddhidatri.
